“I recently packed up and moved from Greene Street, Columbia, South Carolina, where I had a home for 30 years, and moved via Smith Dray Lines (Atlas Van Lines) to Wakefield, a northern suburb of Boston, Massachusetts. I am retired from a career with the US Army Medical Corps. Back in the day, my memory of (too) many military moves is of watching the van pull away, then arriving at my new posting and waiting ... and waiting ... for the load to catch up with me. The wait could be weeks to months. Nowadays this isn't the case. Smith Dray Lines explained that my household good would arrive a thousand miles north possibly as soon as two days after uploading, and no later than a week afterward ! How times change. The gentleman who oversaw both ends of this dispatch of mine was Mr. Adrian Estrich. I wish to compliment him, as well as your company for valuing him. He is a methodical, efficient, and considerate master of what he does. When a representative of Smith Dray first inventoried my home she noted that I was likely to be moving more goods than my already reserved 10' x 15' storage space could hold. As you might imagine, this news raised considerable worry. On the day of my move, I asked Mr. Estrich for his opinion. He offered his own appraisal. He walked about my house, surveyed the boxed material and furniture, rubbed his chin ... and stated solemnly & reassuringly "I think it'll fit." It did. His crew, at both ends, worked steadily and efficiently -- quite in contrast to their predecessors who packaged a hundred or more boxes, mostly books. They had obvious, but quiet, respect for Estrich's experience. He, and they, showed respect for my property. They accommodated my wish to hold out items for packing, so that I might retrieve them easily on arrival up north. They tolerated my puttering and kibitzing and were a pleasure to have in my home. On one occasion I discovered late that my old vacuum cleaner, promised to a neighbor, had been packed and already driven away by the transport truck to the Mother Ship parked somewhere in Blythewood! I actually decided it wasn't worth the bother to fetch it back, and I said so. But Adrian insisted it was no bother. True or not, it was recovered and returned to me without a word of complaint or bother (another contrast to the ladies who boxed books). Estrich's job must be a hard one: loading and unloading in every weather, including the swelter of a Carolina summer; endless hours on our now wretched & crowded interstate highways (vote for overdue national infrastructure repair!!), and (not least) accommodating every sort of personality -- some unruffled by the stress of a move, but others no doubt at the end of their rope and too quick to take out their stress on the innocent. It is largely for this last matter that I chose to bring Estrich to your attention. Yours is a business that necessarily deals every day with clients at a tense time in their lives. I am a physician and I, for one, reject the adage that 'the customer is always right'. No. Sometimes the customer is a jerk. Sometimes he or she is too demanding, crazy, impatient, and/or flat out wrong. It is Estrich's personality and patience, his willingness to reassure and assist -- all the while perfectly expeditious in getting the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible -- that you no doubt value, and for which I am personally grateful. I told him so. Grateful for having the good fortune to have had him oversee my move, I feel obliged to extend my gratitude to you as well. There are legions of horror stories regarding moves. I think I heard them all while in the Medical Corps. I felt lucky to have been spared these. And this latest move, my largest and accomplished without mishap of any kind, continues my good fortune. I have Adrian Estrich to thank for its management.”

My Relocation to NC
“Once I selected Smith Dray Line to move my belongings, my main contact was Amy Chavis. She is absolutely delightful to deal with. She was always available, answered all my questions patiently and completely and she made certain I had my needed supplies while your warehouse guys loaded them with care. Terrance R, Dylan C and Jimmy H were the men who actually moved my belongings and I cannot praise them enough. They called ahead of time so I would be prepared, they were on time and they loaded my things quickly and with care. When they arrived in NC, again they called and were on time and quickly and carefully unloaded my things. Not only were they fine movers, they represented your company well and all 3 of them were exceptionally well mannered and respectful young men. You can be proud to have them on your team.”
